The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

As another year draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on all my blessings and how privileged I am to be able to do what I do.

First of all, I am blessed beyond measure by a husband and family that supports me and helps out by picking up the slack when I get behind or overwhelmed.

Second of all, my customers, who continue to spur me on by their words of encouragement and the fact that they really do love my creations, demonstrating their love by continuing to buy my tea and coming back time and time again for new and different blends.

Last , but never least, is the One whose birth we celebrate at the most wonderful time of year, Christmas. The gift that I received from Him, along with His daily guidance, has taken me down a road I could never have imagined I would be traveling, for which I am forever thankful.  As you gather with family and friends this holiday season, may you have a sense of how very much you are loved by the One who was born in a over 2000 years ago.

I am taking some much-needed rest for the next few days ~  once the family gathers, the presents are opened,  screaming sounds of delighted grandchildren have quieted,  Christmas dinner has been consumed and dishes have been washed, this is what I hope to be doing ~

Tea For All Reasons wishes you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

We’ll see you in the New Year!

‘Tis the Crazy Busy Season

Whether I am properly prepared or not, it always comes. Some years I am more prepared than others, like this year. Sometimes it begins in September and remains steady ’til the end of January. And occasionally it is somewhat sporadic. But in all cases, it is still without doubt the “Crazy-Busy Season!” Our annual Fall Open House  in November contributed to the frenetic pace.  We opened our doors to some of the best customers in the world, and had our biggest turnout yet!  The theme was “A Year in Britain,” celebrating the wonderful events and celebrations in England this year and featuring numerous items we brought back from our trip to UK in May.  With the popularity of the PBS Series, Downton Abbey we created a collection which features a Downton Abbey Blend,

as well as a Jane Austen Collection which includes beaded infusers, ornaments, lavender sachets and a our exclusive Jane Austen Blend.

Our house was back to normal and orderly for about 45 minutes before we began decking the halls for Christmas and getting prepared for the holiday sales.  Holiday Favorites you have come to love as well as some delicious new blends are in the shops.   Snowberry Specialty Green was our biggest seller at the Open House.  With its delicate flavoring of pomegranate and blueberry, you’ll find it wonderfully calming after a hectic afternoon spent mall shopping!    Pomeberry Specialty Green is another calming choice with pomegranate and cranberry paired to create a lovely, delicate blend.  In keeping with the holiday song,  “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree,” we are offering a superb black tea, Partridge Pear, which would be a nice addition to your Christmas breakfast table.  Of course, we have something to offer for your dessert table as well ~ Panettone Black Tea ~ a delectable combination of vanilla and lemon that is reminiscent of the Italian cakes enjoyed at Christmas time.

We’ve been blessed with unique opportunities to supply a host of new businesses this year, including The Cincinnatian Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as The Historic Rosemont Manor in Berryville, Virginia, two of the best places in the country to enjoy Afternoon Tea.

This Christmas may you, our wonderful, loyal customers, experience the Joy of the season and the Hope for a peaceful and prosperous New Year!

“Nothing Hard is Ever Easy”

Those words were often on my lips during the last few months as I went through major surgery in June, spending the rest of the summer recovering. I was assured by others who have had the same hip replacement procedure that I would be so happy once I recovered. Although my long road to recovery continues, one where some days I had to mentally and physically take one day at a time, I am delighted with the results so far. “Nothing hard is ever easy,” but I am nearer to a big payoff at the end, and I am extremely grateful for it!

Once August rolled around, and I was moving a lot better, the organizational and creative juices started flowing. With September looming I couldn’t wait to get started working on new blends, updates, and the empty shelves! I hope you will be pleased with the results. Our Fall Favorites are already in the shop, along with three new blends that are to die for! All three remind us of Autumn; pumpkins on the front porch, chrysanthemums blooming in the garden, comfy sweaters and scarves, the scents of yummy goodies baking in the oven, and maybe one last campfire under a harvest moon. Each one is a perfect accompaniment for snuggling up with a good book by a warm fire. Kids will love them, too! Oatmeal Raisin Cookies Specialty Black is full of chunky bits that give off a heavenly scent even before the cup is brewed and delights with every sip. S’Mores Specialty Black ~ yes, you read that right! This tea, with its chocolate, graham crackers and mini marshmallows, is unbelievably good and is another perfect cuppa to enjoy by the fire. For those of you who love a good latte but are counting your calories, this is for you! Gingerbread Latte Rooibos is one delicious blend and, because it is naturally decaffeinated, it can be enjoyed all evening long.

For our local customers, plans for our annual Fall Open House are already on my desk. Our theme this year is, “A Year in Britain,” and boy, do we have some fantastic items to offer! Suffice to say, we brought back two additional, fully loaded, suitcases than what we carried to UK in May! Details regarding this event will be coming out later this month.

As I enjoy the bounty of this harvest season, I am especially mindful of the bounty of faithful family and friends who helped in my recovery. I am thankful and very blessed.

Happy Autumn!

It’s August Already?

Summer has been a blur around here, with the prevailing theme being, “recovery.” The six weeks since my hip-replacement surgery have gone by very quickly and I am recovering nicely, making steady progress. With another month of physical therapy, I fully expect to back to a normal schedule again. The shop is open for business though it might take a tad longer to get the orders out so we appreciate your continued patience.

Have you been watching all the Olympic excitement? We thought it would be fun to get into the spirit honoring our top three selling English Favorites with awards. Winning the Bronze Medal ~ Windsor Castle Black. Winning a Silver Medal, Prince William’s Specialty Blend. And the winner of the Gold Medal for being our top seller, Cream Earl Grey Black! While you are watching the games, why not set up a tea table and enjoy one of these fantastic winners along with one of our Sale Scone Mixes!

Being “down” for six weeks certainly has given me lots of time to think, create and plan for the fall and I am itching to really get back into the swing of things. Be sure to check back in early September for some wonderful, new flavor creations as well as lots of Fall Favorites.

Enjoy the rest of these lazy, hazy days of summer!

A Different Kind of Summer

Many of you know from previous posts that we are not ones to vacation in the summertime as we just can’t stand the heat. So typically we plan trips in the late spring or early fall. After much planning and preparation, on May 1, we departed for a glorious month-long escape to England, Scotland and Ireland. What a magical, restful, restorative time we had! From the first five days in London, to six days in Ireland, to a driving excursion through East Anglia, down to Kent, over to Brighton, Portsmouth, Taunton, Cheddar, Winchester, Stoke-on-Trent, and ending with five days on a lake in the Lake District of Cumbria with a short overnight in Edinburgh, Scotland, this was a trip of a lifetime! It could not have been any better. After spending 24 hours a day, every day for 30 days in a smallish car and cramped hotel rooms, my husband and I survived and came away with increased devotion, even after being married for nearly 46 years! The trip was a belated celebratory retirement vacation, the memories of which we will treasure for many years to come.

It was also a way to escape before a summer that will require a lot of “down” time. By that I mean I will be having hip replacement surgery which will mean taking more time off to recover. As of June 15, the shop will close for two weeks, depending on how fast I bounce back. I will be checking in from time to time. Feel free to place an order, however, it will take longer than normal for us to get it processed. Thank you in advance for your patience!

Happy Summer!

Closed for the Month of May!

We are discovering in this business that there is never really an ideal time to take time off to refresh and rest. So we decided that the month of May was as good a time as any! We do regret having to close the shop but, alas, all our workers need rest as well. Please come back to visit the shop June 1, to shop for all your Summer Favorites!

Have a tealightful Spring!

Is it Too Soon to Welcome Spring?

After a rather mild winter here in the Shenandoah Valley we are a little hesitant to welcome spring quite yet as we have experienced historic late winter storms in years past. But one can’t deny spring’s impending arrival as the pansies begin to show signs of life, the apple trees’ buds spring forth and the bulbs begin to pop through the soft earth. Inside the shop, however, we are in full-on spring mode, furiously getting ready for the coming season by creating some delicious new blends for our customers!

In the shop you will find our Irish blends that will compliment your St. Patrick’s celebrations on March 17. In addition to our St. Patty’s Favorites, Luck of the Irish Specialty Black and Pot o’ Gold Specialty Rooibos (just to name two) we have two new, rich and delectable blends to add to the list: Irish Whiskey Cream Specialty Black and Cream Irish Breakfast Black.

April 14, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. To commemorate this occasion, we have created The Titanic Commemorative Collection with three delicious blends. You will not find these unique blends anywhere else and, quite frankly, there aren’t any other Titanic blends to be had on the web! So, this is your place to shop for our exclusive offerings, perfect for your anniversary events.

Additional spring blends are being added to the shop all the time so it is suggested that you check back often. Coming soon, as well, is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Collection that honors Queen Elizabeth’s 60 year reign. You might consider putting together a selection of teas for Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation and Graduation gifts!

Did you know you can now “Like” our shop on Facebook and add individual teas to your “Pinterest” board? If you are a fan of Tea For All Reasons, spread the word! We love and appreciate our customers!

Happy Spring!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Let us raise a cuppa as we usher in another year, 2012! Looking back at the year just ended, it started out slowly but certainly did end with a bang. It is safe to say that the ground we lost by moving in 2010 has been officially regained ~ and then some ~ for which we are very grateful. We owe so much to our loyal customers who have followed us to the new location as well as the many new ones who have become regulars in the past year. Thank you!

There is something about the beginning of a new year that causes us to want to organize and the online shop is no exception for us. It is now in shape for the Winter months ahead. Did you know that January is National Hot Tea Month? It’s a great time to organize your tea cupboard and stock up on your favorites! We have a “Winter Favorites” section full of yummy flavors that will carry you through the bitterly cold months. Check out our “Winter Sale” section as well for some great bargains!

Even though the holidays are behind us and the goodies are all gone (or in the freezer in my case) there are times when one must have Scones. Our “Scone Section” is full of delicious flavors, including two new Gluten Free Scone flavors. Check out our fabulous fruit curds and Tea Honey as well.

We anticipate that 2012 will be our greatest year yet! May each of you be granted good health, enough provision for each new day, the joy of family, and many reasons and occasions for Tea Time blessings!

Merry Christmas from Tea For All Reasons!

When I was younger I couldn’t wait for the holiday season to arrive and, as Fall approached, I wished it would come even faster. Now that I am older I have been wishing that time would slow down! There just aren’t enough hours in the day. We have experienced a significant increase in business lately, which is a blessing, but I could use an increase in hours to go along with it!

So, prepared or not, the holiday season is upon us and we are working day (and night) to take good care of our customers. We have some delectable New Arrivals in the shop that you simply must try! Christmas Bakery Specialty Rooibos is a visual feast for the eyes with the fanciful gingerbread men sprinkled amongst the chocolate, almond and ginger bits. The taste is even better! Our Christmas Plum Pudding Specialty Black is rich and delicious, like dessert in a cup, especially with a splash of milk. Pecan Tart Specialty Black is another blend that can satisfy your desire for a rich, decadent dessert, but without all the calories. Full of pecans, walnuts and white chocolate, this is sure to satisfy your need for a sweet treat.

Recently we were chosen to be the Purveyor of Teas at The Historic Rosemont Manor, Circa 1811, in Berryville, Virginia. After consulting with the Rosemont’s Innkeeper, Andrew Sheetz, two flavor profiles were selected and then I went to work creating these custom blends, exclusively for this elegant venue. The Byrd Blend Specialty Black and The Rosemont Blend Specialty Green were introduced in November to rave reviews and brisk sales! We intend to keep them fully stocked in the shop. An additional seasonal blend offered in November, Honey Spice Rooibos, in the signature Rosemont packaging, will be in the shop while supplies last. For December, the seasonal blend will be Christmas Memories Specialty Rooibos, packaged in the distinctive Rosemont tins, and will also be available while supplies last.

We have so much for which to be thankful this year; God’s provision of enough strength for each day, good health, wonderful family, a growing, prosperous business, and the best customers who come through “our doors,” even if we don’t get to see many of you face-to-face.This Christmas Season, may you be granted time to enjoy the small things, faith to reach for big things, opportunities to gather with those you love, and a new sense, or perhaps a renewed sense, of Hope that was born in a manger on that special morn, over 2000 years ago.
We at Tea For All Reasons wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

A Change of Seasons

The first day of Autumn, my favorite season, has finally arrived along with cooler temperatures, pumpkins, chrysanthemums, and the beginnings of changes in leaf color.  This year there are predictions that our leaf colors will be more spectacular than normal owing to an abundance of rain the last couple of months. Autumn also heralds the beginning of the Apple Harvest here in the Shenandoah Valley. One of the biggest and most popular orchards is just down the road from us so we have such an abundance; some varieties I had never even heard of.

On a sadder note, the end of Summer means my summer of reading has come to an end.  Rarely do I get the opportunity to sit down to enjoy a good book.  In the last couple of years I managed to finish less than a handful.  So, I decided to set a goal of reading one book a week for thirteen weeks.  With each passing week I was able to meet my goal, some weeks even surpassing it.  Now that summer is officially over, I can claim with great satisfaction that a grand total of fifteen books have been completed!  Not only that, I managed to read the entire Old Testament as well.  Now that the busy tea season has begun in earnest, I must turn a blind eye to the stack of books that await another season of leisure.

When fall arrives, it’s almost as if a switch has been turned on and the orders start pouring in. It has always been our desire to meet the needs of you, our customers, and to listen to your comments and special requests. Each New Arrival this season is a direct result of a particular request.  With that in mind, I took the suggestion from my daughter to create a Pumpkin Spice Chai Specialty Black which is now in the shop.  Oh, my, is it good!  Try it with milk for a yummy treat on a chilly day.

From time to time we receive requests for our premium teas in teabag form. We have always prided ourselves in offering the freshest, highest quality loose tea available.  However, when we discovered these Organic Pyramid Tea Bags, we decided to offer them packaged in our 4oz. Tins.  You will find five different flavor offerings, four of which are Organic ~ another request from our customers.  A delicious fall flavor we’ve added to our New Arrivals is a Caramel Pear Specialty Black ~ a request from my husband ~ a creation inspired by a tea we had at Disney World in May. It has become one of my new favorites as well.  And, speaking of favorites, check out our ever-growing Fall Favorites section for the other seasonal teas you may be looking for.

More and more folks are looking for Gluten-free products so we decided to begin carrying Gluten-free Vanilla and Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Scone Mixes.  You’ll be delighted with the same easy instructions and delicious results.

Plans for our Holiday Blends are in the works so check back in October for introduction of some of our Holiday Favorites.  Until then, relish the colors and tastes of Fall with a cuppa and a good book.  I will just be a little bit jealous!
